Clarification: I don't think that because "male" and "female" are not unique, discrete, non-overlapping categories, there are "many sexes"

I'm simply saying that we need to be aware of the limitation of binary categories applied to reality that is not neatly binary.
Telling intersex or transsexual people "you are biologically male/female" is to ignore biological complexity to save conceptual simplicity.

Also this is usually said in an effort to undermine the person's gender identity, and not for any genuine scientific reason.
