Clarification: I don't think that because "male" and "female" are not unique, discrete, non-overlapping categories, there are "many sexes"

Telling intersex or transsexual people "you are biologically male/female" is to ignore biological complexity to save conceptual simplicity.

Also this is usually said in an effort to undermine the person's gender identity, and not for any genuine scientific reason.
