It's a basic presupposition of society that's blurted out dogmatically as a cudgel against certain queer people.
Because it's presuppositional, it can never really be argued for. It's not empirical but normative/prescriptive.

The "arguments" in favor end up being, "you're trying to change the definition of words!" w/ implication that this is sinister or impossible
