For instance I like David Mitchell's prim "rants." But you can be funny without being angry you know.
Mitch Hedberg never ranted. He'd get on stage and just kind of wonder about things. Maybe our problem is too much booze, not enough pot.

Even Carlin's bitter rants were mostly at the end of his career. Earlier he'd do these long, winding contemplations that were really great.

My favourite comedians are Eddie Izzard, Bill Bailey and Stewart Lee, because I like a bit more absurd stuff than ranting...

Different styles of comedy though. Mitch Hedberg was in the spirit of the "Steven Wright" absurdist/non-sequitur genre.
