What Kat says about being perceived as radical & irrational no matter what she says really rings true. Like how in 2017 Franchesca Ramsey would make these videos taking care to always be positive & smiling, but anti-SJWtube would still find a way to frame her as angry & offended.

Whiteness, like maleness, grants you a degree of presumed rationality . A black creator can say "police brutality is a problem," while a white creator says "all cops are bastards," and somehow the black creator is still perceived as more militant.

That's literally the situation in LeftTube & related communities, where I see mostly white voices saying "revolution now, punch Nazis, ACAB"—presumably because they *can* say those things without being perceived as hysterical & dangerous to the same extent as non-white radicals.

I also think it's easier for white creators to perform this tedious ritual of "empathizing" with racists, which is apparently the holy grail of discourse & one of the main things I find myself praised for doing—never mind that I haven't done a video on race in more than a year.

At this point I would simply love to turn over the whole discussion of race to non-white creators. But of course that would require audiences to stop hand-wringing about the feelings of racists and actually listen to POC. Are we ready for that?

I've wondered this myself, I'm not sure whether it's due to a lack of POC left-tubers, or YouTube being YouTube, but despite watching almost exclusively lefty videos I've never once been recommended a black YouTuber.

I've always wanted to get started on left tube as a poc contributor, but recent controversy and the complicated ethics of having to represent an incredibly _incredibly_ small minority like indigenous Americans online always makes me think twice

I'm a potential black creator on YouTube. I have a few video essays written & I feel ready to go. But I keep finding myself re-editing an script because I can HEAR the comments that would be in each of my videos telling me I'm out of my league or condemning me as a loon.

I WANT so badly to make videos and explore YouTube. But I've also been on the site since 2007. I know how black creators are treated on the site and I know it's not pretty. But part of being a minority of any kind is learning that you gotta live your "truth". This is their truth

Thank you for sharing. This video hit home. I’m not sure how this changes things for me but it’s made me think. The biggest take away for me was the fact that people need to listen more.

Some real thought provoking stuff. My thoughts have always been white people need to speak out against racism because the right weaponises our silence, says the majority agree with them but are afraid to say because of "political correctness" etc
