I've always found the rights attempt at being countercultural rebels oxymoronic. It's not their nature. Inherent in the right is an adoration of tradition, authority and obedience, and an abhorance of transgressive, subversive behavior. (1)

Add to this how systems of hierarchical power tend toward wanting to consolidate and conserve power and so reward conservative mores like adoration of tradition & authority. Q: who then are they even rebelling against? A: Actual transgressive rebels, which always rings false. (2)
