The goal is to stir up hatred and distrust by appealing to emotional hinges: fear, disgust. Other go-to tropes: -LGBT "recruiting children" -made-up links to pedophilia -suicide rate concern trolling -"erasing biological women" -LGBT acceptance as "attack on free speech"

Ordinary people who don't know much about trans issues readily buy these talking points. People who fall for it never experience their bigotry as hatred. They feel like they have reasonable concerns because they've been made to feel that way by the rhetoric of the hate groups.

Gay marriage has already been "the new normal" for three years (and was before it was legal: my moms have been together since 1991.) I think anti-lgbtiq+ bigots started to panic once they realized that weren't getting that genie back in the bottle.

I’ve been reading “How to Survive a Plague” lately, and 95% of anti-trans rhetoric is exactly the same as the anti-gay rhetoric from the 80s.

Bathroom predators might be overstated but has been proven out in a few instances. As far as mental disorder and destructive ideology goes those can be much more easily justified. BTW, A disorder doesn't disqualify you from your human rights but it is a disorder.

Marginal cases, like the prisoner claiming to be a woman who raped women inmates, can't be used to deny rights.
