Alyson’s Medium piece I think sums up a lot of feelings people have been having and for me if Natalie finds it easier to engage with alt right weirdos than listen to good faith crit from people on the left that’s a issue. https://medium.com/@alysonescalante/how-contrapoints-misunderstands-gender-bd833cc6d8c8 …

I absolutely don’t think Natalie is a bad person at all, but ignoring critical left voices doesn’t help anyone.

I don’t engage with criticism on Twitter because it’s a toxic and abusive community where real conversation is impossible. This is essentially a brand account for that reason. But I do read and think about criticism I receive.

That’s great you look at it, but do you engage with the people and let them know they have been heard or are you just keeping it to yourself because I’ve seen responses from NB and Trans people and they feel that you haven’t heard them at all.

I don't engage on Twitter anymore. It would be good to try this on some other forum. I've had critics (
@gwen_no_fear last year for instance) on for live streams and that's worked pretty well. I really am interested and happy to talk about this stuff but I just can't do it here.1 reply 1 retweet 15 likes -

I personally enjoyed the video and thought the representation of the content was charitable enough but f course I'd be interested in what Natalie has to say.

It's not a change in position but maybe a further elaboration of my position, expressed as "what I think" instead of dialogue. I don't have a fixed position. I'm trying to figure out what I think and what's true. That's one reason for the dialogue format. I don't know the answer.

I think Justine says a lot of things that I've found, for me, to be "survival facts." Things I have to believe to get by in the environment I'm in, but not necessarily final truths. I really wasn't thinking about NB people for instance when I made that video.

Which is a major source of the controversy. But it's not that I think NBs are invalid, I just think their situation requires a different kind of discourse. It's tough because I feel most qualified to talk about things that I have direct personal experience with.

But people expect me to represent all trans people, including NBs, trans men, people with very different experiences. But I just can't do that with the same fluency that authority that I represent myself. I certainly can't represent everyone in just one video. Idk.
