Throughout this thread I've referred to my transition as an effort to seem "like a woman" to other people. So, what does "like a woman" mean? People who haven't thought this through will look at me and say "he thinks long hair and makeup makes him a woman!"

FFS is one of the most expensive transition procedures, and it is rarely if ever covered by insurance in the US. It has therefore become a point of economic class division within the trans community, with all the resentment, insecurity, and distrust that comes with that.

So the problem is literally capitalism, but I'm still going to butcher my face because Patreon.

We have cheap-ish public healthcare, but the major obstacle for me (and most trans folx) is that it’s transphobic. Waited for my 1st appointment at 1 of the 2 clinics for 6 mo, but rescheduled for the other one because getting any treatment with a ”nb-diagnosis” was unlikely.

-
not to mention, getting any diagnosis and treatment is a process that takes like two years of cis people deciding if you’re trans enough

This is the major source of my survivor's guilt, tbh. I know that I miraculously had access to resources at just the right time to avoid most of the really bad stuff around transition. Most of that absolutely involved medical intervention to make me more normative.

it's true for me, and most other trans ppl i know. a day not wanting to smash my mirror seems so far out of reach.

Do you think you would ever do a video talking about pros/cons of the problematic labels of trans people, ie "mental illness", etc? Specifically addressing the ability to get insurance coverage, medical leave, effective therapy, effective self/social acceptance?
-
To clarify: I don't really see why positive labels, outlook, AND medical assistance and accuracy can't be sought all at the same time. I'm just curious what the policy/logistics of trans community look like from the inside. Where is the front line in that fight located?
