Phantom Thread is the actual best American movie I've seen this year even tho I didn't quite love it. Don't you dare @ me
I completely get why people liked it. But I was also a teen living in an unfashionable provincial place at that time, and I thought it felt like it was made in 2003 (rather than just being set then), based on how recycled so much of it felt. Just me tho!

y' know i saw the trailer in the theaters and was like "great a mannered period piece about a tortured artist. fuck i can't believe i'm gonna go see this" and, i'll just say my expectations were incorrect.

It's stunningly original, sometimes to its detriment. Without giving much away I wasn't buying the female lead on several levels. As a piece of visual art its insanely good tho, and the script is, once again, unlike anything else
