"Premature optimization is the root of all evil" is importantly true not just in programming but in general (grocery shopping, brushing teeth, making the day's schedule, improving your relationship, saving the world, creating a company/group/object/art, etc)
Of course, there are failure modes to this: thinking too hard, not starting things, etc. But to do the step of seeking out important supervening or crucial considerations _before_ the step of optimizing the current feature-set is extremely important and counterintuitive.
