2 The idea behind this bill is that anyone found to be involved in human trafficking - which as we know from SESTA/FOSTA is a poorly defined term - can have access to banking and other financial services severed by the US government.

3 The first thing to note: Since FOSTA is now in effect, that means the government can not only fine or seize websites when a USER (not merely the owner) uses it for "human trafficking" (not well-defined) the owner is responsible & can have their access to banking severed.

4 That means if you own a website and some uses is for consensual sex work, which is conflated with sex trafficking, the government can seize your site, and, with this bill, your bank accounts.

5 The govt already has an operation - Operation Choke Point - which led to shutting down porn performers' bank accounts. The performers were essentially collateral damage for a larger initiative. This is proof that these laws will affect performers/workershttps://reason.com/blog/2014/04/28/doj-operation-chokepoint-and-porn-stars …

6 (Of course it is also possible I am being generous and that the shutting down of performers' bank accounts was entirely intentional and even a testing ground for these laws.)

7 These laws WILL ANWAYS BLEED OVER TO AFFECT PORN, CONSENSUAL SEX WORK, AND INTERNET FREEDOM. Why? BECAUSE THEY ARE INTENDED TO.

8 These laws, like the PATRIOT Act, are intended to give the government as wide a breadth as they want to shut down the internet, seize assets, and arrest + prosecute whomever they please.

9 Until language around sex trafficking and consensual sex work is defined - in other words, until sex work is decriminalized - you can't ever trust laws on human trafficking. (And frankly you shouldn't trust them even then.)

10 This bill has the potential to put every porn site, cam site, performer and producer in danger. It arrives in a moment of intense anti-sex work legislation, and also in a moment of conservatives & liberals trying to declare porn a "health crisis" and link it to trafficking.

11 Please don't rest on this like too many did with FOSTA. We learned what actions to take and what the consequences are when we don't take them. Let's go.

12 And btw
@govtrack, you report that you couldn't find opposing voices in Congress, but that should not absolve you from publishing the hundreds of thousands of oppposing voices in the citizenry. Otherwise you're printing propaganda for any oppressive bill w/broad govt approval.このスレッドを表示 -
13 *Oh and also obviously I meant Marco Rubio, not Mark. But I failed to mention it was also sponsored by James Lankford.

Et tu, Elizabeth? Shame on
@SenWarren for doing more to oppress marginalized workers in the name of "protecting" them. -
Why be surprised when she voted yes on FOSTA?
-
I can’t believe I voted for her.
