PSA: That I wrote a book about how to have impossible conversations doesn't mean I'm obliged to have one with you... at your request... on Twitter.

  3. Sorry about the font, people on your phones. Screenshots came from my computer. Here's the whole "White Women's Tears" chapter in Robin DiAngelo's White Fragility. It's nothing short of sadistic. These activists are damaged people.

  4. This whole chapter is positively sadistic. I think I'm going to have to share it.

  5. I guess, due to DiAngelo's bad grammar, it's two sentences. I seem to have edited it in my mind, but I didn't edit my own tweet.

  6. For those who don't know, Robin DiAngelo's book White Fragility has a chapter titled "White Women's Tears" that includes this beautiful sentence: "Many of us see emotions as naturally occurring. But emotions are political in two key ways."

There’s something eerily ironic about Saira Rao, a first-generation Indian American taking on the role of missionary trying to beat the savagery of whiteness out of her half devil half child students & instructing them in the civilizing forces of woke enlightenment.

  8. To be fair, that thing is "ending Social Justice," so that's kinda big and cool and will have political ramifications, but contrary to what the Social Justice people think, my project here isn't political; it's epistemological and ethical, and no, those aren't politics.

Reading that Guardian article about the rich white women paying $2500 to be told how racist they are reminded me of the thought-examinations Mao used to build his power base in the 1940s

  10. We care too much about politics. We care too much about bigotry. We care too little about the quality of our own lives and the people we get to share them with.

Chapter 10 of & 's forthcoming book, Cynical Theories, is the most lucid, liberatory, and lovely piece of writing I've read in the last decade. "An Alternative to the Ideology of Social Justice: Liberalism without Identity Politics"

  16. To be fair, in full disclosure, I'm not a saint. I'll admit again that I have two people whose deaths I will celebrate—but only in private, for myself only. Just two. No, I'm not telling you who they are.
