He basically meant to build up your own hoods before white people do and I fucking agree. Anybody disagreeing with this is the reason why the culture isn't moving forward. Black Wall Street was a real thing and nobody has yet to duplicate it.

I agree with this. I feel he’s saying that the community needs to build up local EVERYTHING so there is less “outside” commercial occupation
-
The thing is, once black neighborhoods are "built up" (better services, lower crime rates, etc.) property values increase and rich people move in to displace poor ones. Gentrification is a market process, not something people can fix by being "more involved" or whatever.
-
Actually… Due to racism property values don’t tend to increase. But the collective good is greater than that. The value is in the community.

Gentrify - to renovate & improve a house or district. Cus from the look of some these tweets, y’all ain’t know what he really meant

-
Wasn’t arguing about the definition, I was arguing about the context jay z was using it in. But thank you

-
Can use a word with a different context than its definition
-
Can or can’t ?
-
Don’t waste your time with close-minded ppl. Notice how the definition they tried to use against you used the words “often” and “usually” which is obviously the exception Jay-Z was rapping about. This is why we’re not progressing as a people.
-
THANK YOU ! They’re giving me the standard when I’m thinking OUTSIDE of the definition. Everybody wanna throw these degrees they’re getting & classes they’re taking & prolly failing the whole time

This is precisely why black billionaires won’t lead the revolution.
-
Google the definition of Gentrify sweetie x
-
But would you live in an area filled with crack heads and gang members though??
-
I’m in Greensboro. There are folks who use drug, who are homeless, & who join gangs b/c the political class has chosen gentrification instead of restoration. So, would I live there in an area w/them? Yes I would and yes I do.
-
I grew up in overtown Miami one of the scariest places to live in back in the 90s and I have work hard to change my area that’s why wynwood is thriving today. Once you become rich or famous you’re not going to want to stay in those areas let alone change it.
-
I'm from Miami too, there are community organizations that are pushing for affordable housing and keeping the community together in Overtown, to stop the effects of gentrification like Wynwood which is peak gentrification.
-
Further more, Overtown for years was pushing for better development, more police patrols, etc to make it a safe neighborhood but bc of historical racism they were ignored. Now bc of rising sea levels, etc want to push out residents and take over
