    On my reading list, but if I’m instantly skeptical of invoking Hofstadter. I genuinely think this Mini Red Scare is far more developed in Australia (maybe New Zealand?) than America.

    Here is an essay by me castigating the wholly overblown effort underway to redefine the US-China relationship as one of near Cold War adversaries. I link it with a deep-rooted, “paranoid style” in US thinking identified decades ago by R. Hofstadter.

    I’ve can’t recall any other issue pushing Overton’s Window this quickly.

    It's been clear for decades that ICE is a rogue agency with little to no oversight. We're nearing 200 deaths in ICE detention. It's time to demand that Congress stop funding ICE's jailing of immigrants and reject Trump's attempts to build massive family prison camps.

    The thing about Kennedy's son is that what we now know, independent of any further incriminating evidence, is itself a scandal because it indicates that Kennedy did not care about the appearance of impropriety, and by extension, the faith of the American people in SCOTUS.

    There's a similar conversation going on in right wing conspiracy theory groups. They believe that Trump was telling them that the Red Hen restaurant is a front for pedophiles because he said it must have a "dirty interior." People see code words and phrases everywhere these days.

    30 years later, we do have a better understanding of what's behind the gap. The consensus: The cause is a social one, and the suspected assailant is chronic stress brought on by being a black woman in this country. The focus now? Addressing structural and institutional racism.
