NYC (1990s): Broken windows policing --> dramatic decrease in crime. SF (2020): Defunding SFPD & refusal to prosecute criminals --> crime skyrocketing (e.g., burglaries). Is
@DeanPreston fixing the problem? Nope, just having the gov't pay for the property crimes with tax $$.3 replies 4 retweets 27 likes -
As much as I don’t agree with chesa and dean Preston, the broken window policing being responsible for the dramatic decrease in crime is a myth. This is a great book. A little outdated in terms of methods used thohttps://www.amazon.com/City-That-Became-Safe-Lessons/dp/0199324166/ref=nodl_ …

But I agree, this program and program paying for broken windows does not help lower crime or do anything. We are not holding anyone accountable. This isn’t even a bandaid. These policies do absolutely nothing

It helps the struggling small businesses. That’s the point. Nobody is claiming it lowers crime. It’s victim assistance.

What business does Chesa have here? Last time I checked "the DA is a constitutionally elected county official responsible for the prosecution of criminal violations of state law and county ordinance" Is this his way of saying sorry he doesn't care about the crimes themselves?

Dean, your platform is that we all must accept increased crime & blight, but you’ll throw us some token amount of $$ to fix the shattered windows of our homes and businesses. How about stopping the people who commit crimes rather than just throwing a few crumbs to their victims?
