We had to coordinate opening the fire door from the inside at the exact moment he was on the outside so he could let a group in before being seen and blocked by the cops. On the phone talking to him, we planned our move: 3/6

in exactly 15 minutes, we would rush the security guards to get to the fire exit inside, and open it at the exact second he was standing outside with a hundred people, ready to storm in and expand the occupation from 50 to 150 people. 4/6

The timing was crucial, every second counted, we stormed the fire exit from the inside, he ran from the outside, we met at the door, and the joy was palpable as throngs of people rushed in dodging security and cops, and the occupation was saved. 5/6

he spent the rest of the day and night inside, giving impromptu classes and hanging out, while the administration planned their response. It was a great moment, and wouldn’t have been possible without him. Rest in Peace, David. 6/6
