That article completely ignores fair dealing/use clauses though. Playing a cover of a song is not inherently copyright infringement unless you're using that cover for the purpose of sale, unlicensed redistribution, profit, or advertising in most countries with copyright laws.

Uploading to YouTube means you are taking part in unlicensed redistribution, profit (monetization) and advertising (channel promotion).

You really need to look into Fair Dealing law. Redistribution refers to copying and sharing the original material, not making a video of your own performance, and not all videos on youtube receive ad revenue. They're only monitized if you manually select that option.
