BIG NEMO, a project written by the great Alan Moore (Watchmen) colored by Jose Villarubia, a riff on Winsor McCay's LITTLE NEMO IN SLUMBERLAND. My drawings on this motion comic, video (not good quality) posted with kind permission of Alan Moore. youtu.be/zu6W71yBk0U

90% of success in the arts stems from not giving a crap about something that happened twenty years ago that made you feel bad about your art. Just get on with it and make new stuff. Stop looking in the rear view mirror.

"Portrait of a Girl Seated" by Emilie Isabel Barrington. Conflicting birthdates abound. Best known as a writer for her biography of her legendary neighbor, the Pre-Raphaelite era/Symbolist painter George Frederic Watts.

This is virtually the same in publishing. When you hear someone got a 6 figure book deal, this is how it really works out when It’s broken down. It’s still not a bad look, but understanding how it really works puts some much needed perspective on it.

If a writer says, "I sold a pilot for $100k," the public misconception is that this person just made a lot of money and shouldn't be complaining when [INSERT OTHER PROFESSION] makes less. Here's how industry news publications COULD help dispel this myth, if they wanted to...

The Herculaneum papyri are more than 1800 papyri scrolls that were carbonized by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius (79 CE), constituting the only surviving library from antiquity that exists in its entirety. Now using new x-ray techniques, these scrolls are being read for the first… Show more

i strongly believe this. if you're taking psychic damage from news, and seeing that news has no utility to you (the information isn't changing your behavior or furthering a goal), it's just hurting your own ability to make things better

things are indeed bad but this site is a despair factory, following every microscopic development of bad news is not the same as taking action and it’s not healthy for you

She worked in oils, watercolor & designed stained glass. I became aware of her because of this Arthurian painting, The Magic Mantle, based on a ballad about a magic cloak that could only be word by a faithful woman. As we see here, Queen Guinevere has been caught out.

Victorian painters inspired by the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood are often referred to as Pre-Raphaelites, but Medievilists is probably a more correct term. Regardless, another contemporary influenced by the movement was Isobel Lillian Gloag (1865-1917).

Time management always gets a lot better the closer a deadline gets. I like whining about how hard I work when I get behind schedule. Back to tweeting only art and news for awhile, and restricting talk to my Patreon until I get back on track.

Collins became ill with cancer while illustrating "The Mystery of Edwin Drood", Charles Dickens's last novel. Dickens died before he finished it, and Collins was too ill to complete the interior illustrations, but his cover art is on the 1st edition.

Pre-Raphaelite era painter Charles Allston Collins, "Convent Thoughts". Meticulous craft here. He was 1 degree of separation from a lot of cool people. His brother was novelist Wilkie Collins, author of "The Woman in White" and his wife was Charles Dickens's daughter.
