Got 5th at #i62 where top 4 is the prize money. Wouldn't recommend playing tournaments with casuals, nothing interesting about losing to random decks that make no sense. Played bad in swiss yesterday but today I got straight up highrolled

I get that it's an open tournament and wanting casuals to join in is great, but if you're giving the winner £400 you should at least try to make sure the best players win

It's a double elim bracket in the top 16...what more do you want them to do?

Do you think having a ban would mean that you don't lose to random decks that make no sense? I do agree a ban is usually a better format, but I think it's interesting to explore different options. LHS tournaments have been scarce recently so having no ban should create strategies

For me having a ban is the basis of tournament play as it lets you counter/target stuff effectively. All I can say is I've played no ban a few times and it's always awful. You have to bring stuff that beats everything and then it just feels like playing ladder

I think more casual tournaments can have more casual formats, and Insomnia definitely seems to be a more casually oriented tournament than others. I don't think that's inherently wrong I just think it's different goals for the same tournament clashing here

I get that but if you're offering good prize money you need to have the competitive formats. Same with WESG how they had an insane prize pool and no ban (in qualifiers at least, idr about the rest). People are trying to make money in these tournaments, it's a basic (1/2)

principle that when it comes to earning money tournaments should be as fair and competitive as possible. This isn't roulette, random or uncontrollable factors need to be minimised with money on the line

You can argue about the best formats all you like, but not having a ban isn't a random or uncontrollable factor. That is a decision that was made for that tournament format, and it's clearly designed to be more approachable and casual for people who aren't super competitive

I mean it adds an element of randomness to the matches themselves. Obviously it was a deliberate decision to go with that format but I think it was ill advised for the latter stages of the tournament at least
