All the lies and scare tactics behind the GOP campaign to recall SF DA @chesaboudin can be dizzying.
I mean, the forest here is obvi a desperate plea for more failed, racist incarceration. But it's worth seeing that the trees are rotten.
So here's a THREAD w/ some FACTS:
I've been here 20yrs and my wife is 3rd generation SF. Crime has "changed". There are more homeless crazy people on the street than I can remember, but in the past, they were still here, they were simply south of market or under the embarcadero (back when it was elevated)

Crimes like shoplifting do go unreported, regardless of statistics, but there's an important part that "both sides" are missing: The police.

The police *know* a shoplifter isn't going to get prosecuted, so they don't lift a finger. why do the paperwork, right? But think about it. When I was a kid, my and my friends got caught shoplifting. We got a talking to, a good scare, parents called.... and never did it again.

I think that may be a result of increasing housing costs and evictions in the city, sadly I know several homeless folks who lost their jobs and ended up being evicted from their SROs and families who were evicted and had to sleep in their car or in shelters
