To weigh the balance between risk of damage to the idea of BTC in the public view vs a small amt of centralization I'll pick the later

Decentralization is the primary security mechanism of BTC though. Just look at the PRC's actions this week; States will get worse soon.

I don't think you'd lose that many nodes @ 2. But yes, main reason to agree to 2 is a political concession to regain moral high ground.

Nodes would be fine at 4mb, even. Sadly, it takes a risky Hard Fork to do that which takes a long time. BTC1 wouldn't wait and 2x was born.

So trading risk of something bad vs certainty of something bad is a good idea? BCH showed fork can be done without damage as long as there..

is a clear minority/majority and moral authority with BTC. Devs intransigence sets up a very contentious situation Better for them to cave.

Meritocracies cannot cave. That's not within their ability, literally. The biggest problem is so few people see 'core' is decentralized.

"Vote?" That's not in the core dev's vocabulary excepting only when used as a curse word. Too decentralized for that.

You're acting like they don't communicate at all. How do they even control who has commit access if that is the case? Obviously they talk

Talk? Constantly. Their linuxfoundation Devlist and IRC chat are constantly in use. But voting is something they're all against. #anarchy

They reach consensus. Might not call it voting but that's what it is. Without it there would be commit battles endlessly

Exactly, but only when great ideas are presented that most of them agree on & help with. Otherwise nothing gets done, and that's by design.
