I kinda don't understand why Riot chose to do Valorant access via Twitch drops. Why not do it regionally when servers are ready for everyone? Sure, you don't have a WoW-esque in-client queue with drops, but watch time+RNG variables seem a little convoluted for just game access.

That's the part I was legitimately worried about. Deeming games "successful" with 5m active accounts just means there's a good reason to fudge numbers, like they did with TFT. Then again it's Riot, why would they release anything ethically ever.

reminder nexus blitz was successful, and pulled numbers higher than tt ever did, was supposed to be a permanent mode, but they never gave it much of a chance anyway and shoved tft out real damn fast too

This certainly has helped grow twitch's user base a significant amount. Don't yet know if that part was planned out to great detail or not, but it would certainly not surprise me.
