    Instead of breaking down a 10 year old’s swing on video through private lessons, how about we encourage them to be kids and play whiffle ball with friends. I miss those days of the tree as first base and a frisbee as another base.

    I’ve noticed that if the athlete attends 90% of their training sessions during a block, it correlates strongly with improvements in strength and speed development.

    I initially measured attendance at gym sessions - if the athletes weren’t in the gym I couldn’t impact on anything else! It didn’t require a fancy piece of kit or complex algorithm - just a list of names and a box to tick...but it was the first nudge of change

    Weight room = revealer of true character. Half squat when you think coach isn’t looking? Once is a fluke. The entire set is who you are as an athlete. You either add to a team lift, or you take away. There is no middle ground.

    No matter how hard I coach an athlete, I try and tell that kiddo how much I truly care. It’s about building relationships.

    Words we need to say and HEAR... I think you are something special. Do not accept less than your very best. You have what it takes to be better than most, perhaps even the best if you will work for it. You matter to me. I believe in you. I love you. I am proud of you.
