Thinking about the tweet "when people tweet about missing their deactivated mutuals it reminds me of internees at mental asylums who miss former patients" -- though this appears to be a mocking take it describes something ardent and sincere completely missing in irl friendships

Sometimes you already know what someone is going to say before they say it, but your premonitory awareness doesn't mitigate the impact of their words at all

the aim is to ensure that kids have a happy enough childhood that their fond memories cheer them for the rest of their lives; that as adults they might be willing or eager to make sacrifices for the sake of paying it forward to the next generation

The carefree atheist idea that death is a 'great slumber' doesn't hold up; a 'slumber' is only 'slumberous' insofar as you imagine its transitionary points -- the mellow, unhurried process of falling asleep or waking up. dreams are either heavenly or hellish

One vice I'd like to take up this year is oversleeping. I'd like early evenings to preclude the taunts of the moon, late mornings and protracted naps to ward me against responsibilities and neuroticism

Hot, bedding-free summer nights would be quite pleasant if it weren't for this phenomenon

server rooms are tesseracts, though they may only be a few cubic yards in nominal volume, some have thousands if not more human souls enthralled to them at any given point in a day

wonder which language(s) have a word for 'sudden infatuation with something (objectively good/beautiful) upon learning that it's severely defective/ugly in some way after a long period of disinterested acquaintance with it'

"more people have nothing to lose than ever before so there'll be cathartic bloodshed and sublime anarchy" wishful thinking imo. having nothing to lose goes hand in hand with 'having nothing to gain' and trinkets and bread and circuses mean the world to the living dead

thinking about the finitude of any given thing is nauseating but thinking about the finitude of every given thing collectively considered is relieving

'ingroup' is a useful word but it's hard to take seriously, even when it's employed by perceptive and insightful people. even if they dont mean it, it often it feels as though the writer is trying to proclaim that theyve undergone ego death & thus have the prerogative to use it

At what point did the idea of a 'secret' become more or less interchangeable with the idea of a 'guilty pleasure'? seems like there's no gravity or mystery to secrecy anymore, but everyone has shameful habits of consumption that are often ignominious for their infantility

Age is an assembly line that begins with nihilistic yearning and ends with complacent whimpering, the overwhelming majority of people are Maslow's bottom feeders. boomers are becoming geriatrics and gen x and millennials are becoming boomers
