Anchorage used to have 3-6 days per year with a min temp colder than -15°F. We're now gone 10 years without a day that cold – twice as long as the next longest streak. If you are wondering, no station moves and no change in urbanization in decades. @DaveSnider @AlaskaWxpic.twitter.com/i8FjqS4mrs

This would seem to indicate that Anchorage saw enormous growth in 80's and 90's. Add to that the (slight) decrease in household size & (large) increase in living area per person. I'd expect about 10-20% more urban area given the same populationpic.twitter.com/HxPcg9Xym2

If you look at a map, you'll see that the airport thermometer is near the water and the development near the airport occurred decades ago.

JAN used to average single digit lows about once every 4 years. Never happened in the entire time I worked there (20 years) and streak is now nearly 3x longer than any in the past.pic.twitter.com/MCzBT4dUFJ

What? You mean Ithaca NY (which regularly got a few weeks of -20F when I was in school there) was colder than Anchorage?? And we weren't even the cold part of NY state.

I grew up at high altitude in CO. The local community used to do a lottery where people would guess what day of the year our reservoir would completely freeze over. People used to ride snowmobiles on it for recreation, it doesn’t freeze over anymore

Summit county, so the towns of Dillon, Silverthorne, Frisco and Breckenridge. Frisco is at 9,097 ft of elevation - pretty sure it was a county lotto program

That’s #climatechange. The glaciers retreating on Kenai are very disturbing. Need to reduce GHG emissions quickly. Won’t be easy or cheap, but a warming planet poses huge risks for billions. @SierraClub @weatherchannel @bbcweather @Alyssa_Milano @AOC @alaskawild @adndotcom
