I think some of us could fall down a rabbit hole. But I also think we would have more resilience when our errors are pointed out. I mean JI wrote clear as day that his mid-range guess would be 10K deaths. He and others now write, wrongly, that this was part of a range.
I'll also add I was *really* happy when he made these predictions. He was a smart, data-driven guy, I thought. I really wanted his antibody studies to be true. My confirmation bias was to believe him. But the numbers from NY already proved him wrong, sadly.
I think it’s more than just confirmation bias. That can happy subconsciously, this is far more deliberate. Seeking to manipulate towards a fixed position. Quackery.https://twitter.com/PaulLomax/status/1252712529115185154 …
I think all researchers have this trait of following the rabbit hole. The other side of the coin: a good researcher doesn't just give up at the first contradictory result. You've always got to dig deeper to see if it's really true. The problem, ofc, is knowing when to stop.pic.twitter.com/tX51kWbfil
