Yes, classic low-expectation-mongering. And they ignore/downplay the significance of 1.5C. I bet there's some fake-solutioning and/or change-washing in their discourse, too. (they're not saying, "it's too late to avoid extinction/collapse there's nothing we can do!", are they?!)

This might be kind of harsh, but a lot of elected officials are like smart golden retrievers in terms of temperament. People who understand the true gravity of the situation are deeply distraught and aren't jolly people persons who succeed in politics.
