We have indeed reduced forests as mankind has grown in population, but that would happen under any system that seeks to support 7+ billion people, capitalist, socialist, or chiropodist. Those who want the earth left in its 10000 BC condition need to say which 7B they want to kill

Anti-capitalism among the youth is a concerning trend. My son, a very bright high school senior just made a disparaging comment about capitalism. Uncertain where the disdain is originating other than a lack of experience and ignorance.

At the very school he attends.

This idea is empirically demonstrated in the results of the African Conservation Model of the past 30 years. By allowing (expensive!) hunting tags for mature, aggressive, non-breeding males (lions, rhinos) Africa was able to 1) rebound populations, and 2) fund anti-poaching ops.

Personally, as an outdoorsman, I thoroughly dislike trophy hunting. With that said, the CEO of Jimmy John’s has done more for African big cats than 1,000 New Jersey cat ladies sending checks to the WWF every year. Paradoxically, killing one saves probably 200.
