Today's immigrants are looking for the free stuff (started in 1935). Why would somebody from Guatemala come to the US? If they had to leave home, why not just stop in Mexico?
-
Your assertion does not match my observations. I’m a son of an Argentine. I have worked with or for immigrants from England, France, Germany, Russia, Iran, China, Mexico, Israel, Canada, Philippines, Australia, the former Czechoslovakia, Serbia. Entry dates 1950s-2010.

Totally agree! I teach ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) to adult immigrants. I've taught students from Asia, Eastern Europe, Africa, South/Central (Latin) America, of 100s of languages/dialects. Their purposes are same as our ancestors: a future w work & freedom
