Anyone have experience with out of the box web hosting services? Spent the better part of the day building a site with @squarespace. Only to realize I don't know anyone besides a few podcasts that's actually used them.

Depends on the goal of your site. Are you selling products or yourself?

Myself. Putting together a portfolio site to try to drum up freelance work. And potentially to expand into a location to support a documentary I want to make.

$12/$16 isn't that bad for hosting, at least you won't have to dick around upgrading software or anything. Hosting on YouTube or Vimeo?

I’d prefer Vimeo for quality, but I’m pretty close their three gig limit. And the free version only lets you upload 500mb per week. I’m looking at high res mp4s of maybe 12-15 pieces of work. I’ll probably start on YouTube and transition over.

I think squarespace should be a decent fit for you, maybe hire a graphic designer for a couple hours to polish up whatever look you're going for

It needs some work, someone to clean up the copy a bit too. But it’s a start.http://CathcartCreative.com

I think I’m gonna have Pants do some work for me. I was thinking a campfire as a mark. A little out doorsy but also playing with the storytelling thing.
