This has happened to me before and will likely happen again, so some kind of membership scheme would probably work. Anyone got any ideas??

I'm looking for private office space in central London that I can hire by the hour that will allow me to do remote work and have online meetings with good reliable WiFi, in the EVENINGS, until at least 9pm.

OK, Manchester. I set out to find a cosy cafe in central Mcr, and failed. My definition of "cosy" is armchairs, sofas, carpets. I know it's not practical for a food/drink establishment, but a girl can dream.

It was the right decision. I beat the bus. (But only just.)

What's the betting if I get off this bus I can walk to where I'm going quicker than it will get there?

OK, I'm on the bus. And I have good newses: 1. USB charging point. 2. I got my favourite seat. The one at the front where you can pretend you're driving the bus from the top deck. And...

Nice bright interior. Hard wooden bench. Not cosy. But the tea is nice!

I'll slurp this down then go catch my bus.

Then I saw Northern Tea Power. I couldn't remember if I'd been here before. Turns out I have, but wevs. I had a bit of difficulty describing red bush (the server only knew it by the name rooibos), but we got there in the end!

I thought about the craft centre, but I've been there before and I think the cafe closes at 5 if not earlier. Then I thought sod it, I'll no into fig and sparrow for a quick cup of tea. I've been there before but it's on the way to the bus stop.

But the door was locked! All the people inside ignored my attempts to get in. 😢

I passed a place that looked ok. Smithfield Social. The tables all had knives and forks and glasses on, but it looked like it might do tea and coffee.

Anyway it doesn't matter. The building was open, the signs showed me where to go, but the door was dark and nobody answered the doorbell.

Oppidan Social Manchester on Edge Street is situated in the Norther Quarter, everything is free, drinks, snacks, wifi, you pay for the time you spend

Also I think it's the same place that used to be called Ziferblatt. Used to be that you paid by the hour and got free tea and coffee and cake, which is great but that felt like a slightly complicated transaction to be negotiating when really I shouldn't stay more than 15 minutes.

And the next place was closed too. That one is quite confusing. It's a co-working space and the only one on my list that appears to have sofas and carpets, but although its Twitter account claimed it was open, Google maps insisted it was "closed permanently."

And I was starting to feel a little wired from all the caffeine and sugar.

And it took forever to open my spreadsheet once on the street and out of range of WiFi.

That would have been fine, but my Google maps system failed me and used the same colour for two different lists, so I couldn't tell where the next café was.

I wanted to do at least do five.

But I'd only done four cafés!

The sensible thing to do next would just have been to go home. It was quarter to five.

But oh dear, then it all went a bit pear shaped.

Got a nice smile and a friendly wave from the guy behind the counter when I left.

OK, I'm going to do that thing that makes me feel simultaneously daft and proud: I'm going to leave the final mouthful of brownie behind when I leave. I don't need it! I've had enough. It was nice though.

I dunno, maybe this is just me doing really tight pomodoros and giving my brain freedom to roam and be creative between times?

Not counting replying to work messages and emails, which I am incapable of ignoring and have done tons of... What this actually seems to mean is that I spend ten minutes at the end of each visit reading work stuff and making notes.
