It could have done but that would have been a different article (and not mine to write). The argumentative focus isn't supposed to be blackface. It's drag. I'm taking it as a given that blackface is reprehensible and exploring why drag is assumed otherwise.

Yes but, as the continued existence of blackface indicates, not everybody does take it as a given that it’s bad. And I’m concerned that the lack of critical scrutiny within this article contributes to a feminist discourse in which anti-Blackness is downplayed or ignored.

I can see why this line of argument appeals to white women, and am conscious of parallels between blackface and drag, but ultimately think this lands on the side of a false equivalence. And runs the risk of exploiting anti-Black racism for shock value.

Many GC women don't care either way. Black women on here have explained why they find the comparison and the term "Womanface" offensive and been ignored and openly mocked.

Wonder if it could have been written w/out any reference to blackface. Do arguments against blackface compare itself to any other oppressed group or does it stand on its own? Can we argue misogyny w/out comparisons & still be taken seriously? No, not taken seriously with or w/out
