I’m disgusted by people celebrating Vancouver Rape Relief being defunded, like it’s a political victory. Countless vulnerable women are at risk of being left without support in the aftermath of male violence. Only the worst kind of misogynist could see that as a positive outcome.

It feels significant that those crowing over a Rape Relief service being defunded are mostly male - more likely to be the perpetrators than the victims of sexual violence, even when they’re left-wing brogressives.

It’s a credit to them that they would rather refuse money if it comes with traumatising women even more by allowing male bodies. That is without a doubt one of the kindest, most selfless acts I’ve seen towards women and I so hope they can somehow continue their work!
