Cool research from on bumblebees and flower temperature 🐝🌺. Turns out that they can use surface temperature as a guide to help find nectar faster

Three grad students wondered if they could grow snake venom glands in the lab. They tried, it worked, and these “organoids” could greatly accelerate the study of snake venom which has historically been slow and underfunded despite the huge medical need.

As a disabled student, the first thing I do when we get the syllabus is flip to the attendance policy and let me explain in detail why this one is so terribly daunting and ableist.

A picture of part of a syllabus. It is too long for ALT text so please see tweet reply for image description.

Hey US friends it’s a small thing but remember your friendly can help you bug your members of Congress very quickly - sending letters or helping you make calls - to ask what they are doing to prevent an impeached president from starting a war of choice with Iran.

After a bit of a hectic morning I took a break to make some paper snow flakes. The first batch were a bit plain but then I got creative and I’m much happier with my latest creations

Bill Gates just surpassed Jeff Bezos as the richest person on Earth, with a net worth of $110 billion. I struggled to imagine this huge number, so I animated some bar graphs that put it in proportion with other points of reference. The scale is quite stark.

Morning tea musings: D&D has metallic dragon species, like silver and gold, right? They have bronze dragons, and brass dragons, but brass is not a naturally occurring metal. It’s an alloy of zinc. But there are no zinc dragons! WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM?!
