This is the screen that set off the ballistic missile alert on Saturday. The operator clicked the PACOM (CDW) State Only link. The drill link is the one that was supposed to be clicked. #Hawaiipic.twitter.com/lDVnqUmyHa

Now the State of Hawaii is saying the original screenshot shared with the media is merely an example and has shared a second image saying it is another example of the user interface. Neither screenshot shows the actual interface used by the operator. http://www.civilbeat.org/2018/01/hawaii-distributed-phony-image-of-missile-warning-screen/ …pic.twitter.com/VFDXpvFiZd

I understand they may be linking to documentation/training (in HTML), and I understand the need for text-only sources/labels to feed to multiple systems. But there needs to be meta in addition. The labels are also way too cryptic and only add ambiquity for operators.

You can now get a feel for the interface (The mockup interaction is purely based on imagination and lack of time - any similarities with the actual interaction design, beyond what is in the screenshot, is purely coincidental). http://udo.se/hawaii/  #hawaii

Not within a 30 minute (and actual detection turnnsround would make it far less) flight duration. In any case, this is a total non-design, interface-wise. I'm sure if I was exposed to more of it under a CA/NDA, I'd find endless control/process issues as well. Fail^10

Shame but i see where you are going with this sounds like some better systems or concepts need to be but in place looks like it was made 20 years ago and never got funding for upgrades

After all the annoying UIs through history that have asked us if we are sure, finally here's a good case to have asked "Are you sure you want to alert everyone there's an inbound nuke?" ... though only slightly less well-known is this classic UX blunder:https://twitter.com/TabletopOwlbear/status/889792561874784257 …

:) No comment... I am wondering how long this operator was working on this position? What was his rank if he was soldier? Did this happen in a demo presentation?
