We are warning universities & students about Sci Hub, a series of websites that allows illegal access to millions of research papers. Sci-Hub obtains the papers through malicious means such as phishing emails to trick users into divulging their logins 👉http://bit.ly/38V3IFB pic.twitter.com/WDYJEQIhr6

er.. are you sure? All work by publicly funded universities, regardless of any external partnerships, should be #openaccess This tweet sounds like you're doing the bidding of the old-style publishers protecting their outdated business model. #opensource #openscience

Hi @oxunipress @LondMathSoc Could make this paper from 1913 #openaccess please? It is over 100 years old now so probably not unreasonable to make it #opensource #maths Thanks https://academic.oup.com/plms/article-abstract/s2-13/1/174/1612368?redirectedFrom=PDF …

The link is: https://sci-hub.do/  There's absolutely no evidence of credentials being stolen, but I'm positive that the police are never wrong. Definitely don't click it, free access to information is bad because capitalism is good. /s

Have you got an example of one of these emails that you know beyond reasonable doubt has been directly used by sci hub to gain access to journal articles? How many people have you contacted to let them know their credentials have been stolen? I can submit an FoI if you like.

It doesn't happen because it doesn't need to. Students and staff donate their logins. Sci-Hub has absolutely no need to try to obtain logins by deception.
