This is a really difficult - and hugely important - question, one explored in brilliant nuance on Episode 25 of @briebriejoy's must-listen @SWOTIpodcast. The Q is bigger than men implicated in #MeToo
: what do we do with men who can't let go of #patriarchy?http://ow.ly/x3Kj30jN9ed
With #MeToo
, it's doubly challenging. Women who have been oppressed and ignored are now asked to redeem their oppressor? After Elliot Rodger and the Toronto incel attack, we're supposed to address the pain of violent misogynists?

I thought a lot about this listening to the two-part dialogue b/t
@BreneBrown +@deray@PodSaveThePpl, for we see the same dynamic with#BlackLivesMatter
+ white-nationalists post-Charlottesville.Show this thread -
We know the other side won't extend the olive branch, but asking oppressed people to do the work YET AGAIN... is a lot to ask. But as our division increases... who will take responsibility for closing the divide? Back to where we started: what do we do with "these men"?

And a belated addition from one of my favorite authors (
@bellhooks): "The moment we choose to love we begin to move against domination, against oppression. The moment we choose to love we begin to move towards freedom, to act in ways that liberate ourselves and others."Show this thread
