When the Senate acquits a guilty president, and the public only cares about winning, it's clear that a president's character becomes the chief check on his conduct. If we're going to treat presidents like kings, can we at least ask the king to be good?

WATCH: The GOP Senators who stood as jurors in President Trump's impeachment trial once called for him to be "kicked out of the party" and argued a "speck of dirt" was "more qualified" to be President, and now have voted to acquit him.

What really nails here is the extreme curve Trump is graded on by the media. Pelosi gets more attention for one moment of dignified protest than he gets for an entire speech packed end to end with bombast and lies, because that's just what we expect of him.

. writes: Unlike Trump's abuses of power, Speaker Pelosi's ripping of the state of the union text *is* a removable offense. My reply to such craven absurdities:

"Those who most respect the office Trump holds, & Nancy Pelosi heads that list, are most sensitive to how Trump defiles that office. The time will come to clean it. But for now, nobody should have to pretend not to smell it—not even on State of the Union night." Wow...

And sinks to a new low in attacking the faith of Pelosi and Romney, two deeply religious people. What God and what faith tolerate serial infidelity, paying off porn stars, lying, cheating, mocking the meekest among us, abusing power--No god, no faith, no religion

Kudos to Fox News and Chris Wallace, for running this interview with Mitt Romney before he made his statement to the Senate, despite the plethora of vicious attacks from the nighttime Fox News stable:

Donald Trump—the "Drain the Swamp" president—is currently standing at the White House podium on live TV praising Matt Schlapp, a lobbyist with a booming business that depends on his clients knowing he access to the President.

Of the 10 persons nominated for president 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, Donald Trump scored the 2nd lowest share of the vote. Of the 5 LOSERS of those elections, 4 scored higher than Donald Trump: Gore, Kerry, Romney, and of course Clinton.

Man, that was hard yesterday watching 52 rabidly partisan Senators representing less than half the country smash our constitutional system of checks for a crook they know threatens democracy, then seeing two Senators double down by launching a corrupt investigation of his rival.

Congressional Republicans being more outraged by a Senator demonstrating independence than a President breaking our laws tells you everything you need to know about the modern GOP.

Sen. Jon Tester tells that it’s the “ultimate of ironies” that Trump goes after Romney, a man of faith, while Trump is “a man who had an affair with a porn star when his wife was pregnant.”

This is totally disgusting. Not only calling such a vulgar word ... but apparently the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree with regard to complete disrespect for women.

Instead of secretly fraternizing with the Russians or extorting a less powerful nation to engage in vendettas against his political opponents suppose Trump had spent the time on an infrastructure bill or early childhood education? More good would have been done.
