My book is officially, finally, published. I’ve already said so much about it. I’ll just add: For four years it was my private labor. I can’t wait for everyone to read it, argue about it, interpret it, spill coffee on it and make it their own.

Maybe these NHL skills events wouldn’t seem so idiotic if the players weren’t so clearly ashamed about putting any effort into them

The students at Fairport HS asked GREAT questions today. Frankly they seemed a little put off by the sweeping structures of segregation we adults have handed down to them! Thanks for having me!

An update on this: I just learned that Florence's son Joshwyne, who had been in prison since 1991 on a murder conviction, was released in January. One hopes he got to spend some time with his father in the last month.

IMO it's not about major brand names but rather the smaller ones that might be unique but can't get space on the shelf. My biggest pet peeve is the six shelves of store-brand coffee with almost nothing for sale that's shade-grown & fair trade.

In 2022, six unhoused Chicagoans I knew died preventable deaths. My first piece in 2023 is a long story about their short lives. It’s also about the rest of us: the deaths we accept, the lives we don't, & our role in them. chicagoreader.com/news-politics/
