Localization is about not being seen. If your writing is noticed, you goofed.

@Treasuresword @mombot been working in loc for 10+ yrs for big AAA titles. #FireEmblemFates loc is unprofessional no matter what they say
@Immahnoob man, if I were to do this w/AAA games, I'd never get a job in the industry. "Localization" is not a philosohpical concept.
1) Localization is simply translation. You localize time/date formats & only change jokes & references if meaning would be lost @Immahnoob
2) Your job is NOT WRITING. YOU DON'T MAKE SHIT UP! You ADAPT the text to your language. THAT'S FUCKING IT. @Immahnoob
3) Sure, 90% of clients are dicks and it's hard to produce quality translation with tight deadlines. Inconsistencies will happen. @Immahnoob
4) If I get asked to "get creative" I'd say: "sure, give me a writer's salary". Otherwise you get a translation. @Immahnoob
5) Sure, if the text is good, you have time & get paid decently, you'll create a good translation. YOU. DON'T. MAKE. SHIT. UP! @Immahnoob
6) It's UNIMAGINABLE to say: "this game is problematic, I'll re-write & cut the bad parts out." One fuckup & you CAN'T BE TRUSTED @Immahnoob
@Cibiscosis @Treasuresword @mombot so for 10 years you have converted text verbatim for AAA titles. Correct?
@DCharlieJP @Treasuresword @mombot welp, UIs pretty much need to be verbatim otherwise user experience can break. The rest not verbatim.
@DCharlieJP @Treasuresword @mombot but you can see that there's a scale between verbatim and rewriting whole sections & changing scenes.
@Cibiscosis @Treasuresword @mombot therefore in that case if Nintendo say "make sure this gets a Teen" then arguing that "SJWs!" falls away
@DCharlieJP @Cibiscosis @mombot Interesting to watch this, but correction: current info points to the ESRB not being a factor in #FireEMblem
@Treasuresword @Cibiscosis @mombot if they say "SANITIZE THIS!" then ... what do you do? no opinion on the translation as i've not played
1/ (tried to follow the tweets, hopefull I don't miss anything) I give 25% of the blame to Nintendo. @DCharlieJP @Treasuresword @mombot
2/ Maybe it's 33% or more. Who knows. The extent of changes the screenshots show R inconsistent with what @DCharlieJP @Treasuresword @mombot
@Cibiscosis @Treasuresword @FireEmblemJP Was gonna pick it up but I'm not about to buy a poor imitation of the original game.
