Insights* from the interface of theory and experiment: -Hardest thing for a mathematician to learn: just because the math is right doesn't mean the model is. -Hardest thing for a biologist to learn: just because the model is wrong doesn't mean it's not useful.

After another unsuccessful grant application, I'm struggling to see why review boards don't just provide all their thoughts/conclusions/evaluations of an application, if they don't want to give formal, curated feedback. Seems a terrible misuse of their and our time not to do so.

    >350 neuroscientists have signed this petition so far. Surely there are more who are on board with the message. Then sign it!! The minimum to ask is to calculate & publish publicly the annual CO2 footprint.

The compatibility between this AI-informed conception of brain function, brilliantly explained, and a behaviour-first perspective on how the brain & organism as a whole develops to optimise environmental interactions, is fascinating.

This has significant implications for how people learn, and how rational our decision-making can be given the biological constraints. Congrats to the authors!

We're very luck in ephys at the moment to have people driving the development of these tools for more effective, accessible and reproducible experimentation and analysis!

Why consulting in neuroscience makes sense: If real life was like academia, you'd not bring your car to mechanics but miss weeks of work because it's cheaper to fix by yourself. Learning valve timing charts would be seen as part of your training. New post:

This answers a lot of the fundamental questions about the purpose of distributions etc, starting steps, that might be impediments to those switching from Matlab or just starting fresh with Python.
