Are they not quadrupling the protection to £100k? And then will consult on the level of cap. Seems fair.

Not exactly, no old system is 23k of cash savings (so does not include house). New system is £100k of assets (including your house).
-
But there will be a cap. There isn't one now. Bit of fake news by Chukka there

-
You are conflating systems for care in the home and residential care.
-
Who? Me? There is no current cap.
-
Grandparents home is Not included in current system. Savings above £23,250 are. House WILL be included in May plan:https://www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk/en/articles/means-tests-for-help-with-care-costs-how-they-work …
-
Seems fair to me. My dad was in residential. Why differentiate?

Why is it specifically dementia? I don't agree with the policy but can't see why it's labelled dementia tax.
-
It's a shorthand for any debilitating illness which will require years of care at home e.g. My grandad who has Parkinsons will be badly hit.
-
What's labours policy on it?
-
National Care Service, integrated with NHS.
-
Hmm that's not a policy. Labour will probably make up for it through inheritance tax. My point is that dementia tax marketing

Busted!
Couldn't be arsed typing manifesto social care stuff. Fairest plan IMHO was Burnham's 2010 one but droppedhttps://www.kingsfund.org.uk/blog/2017/03/death-tax-social-care …

This WILL put vulnerable people off accepting help they need. Grandad has advanced stage Parkinsons. Insisting on no carer over cost fears.

Surely the current situation is confiscating assets down to the last £23k? And where does Dementia come into it that it doesn't already?
-
Currently only applies to 24hr residential care. New system will hit those needing assistance at home.
-
Mum gets care at home (Parkinsons) is on state pension, was means tested before receiving care for free, also still don't know why Dementia?
