Hard not to feel totally crushed on a day like today. Hard not to have the sneaking suspicion we've seen the last of fair elections for a while. Hard not to see a dark, dark path ahead.

I don't know what the answer is. Or the way forward. Our elections are compromised across a number of axes, but if we vote in such numbers that our votes cannot be denied, maybe that's the way forward. Volunteering for candidates. Demanding better of our media. Protesting.

Protesting is probably the best way forward -- choking the streets, shutting everything down. Jamming the gears of our own economy to demand change. But it's also a big ask. It exposes our most vulnerable, people who can't afford to protest, or be arrested, or whatever.

People say, "Well, why can't we do what South Korea did? Fill the streets until they kick the corruption out." We can, I guess, but it's a lot harder, I suspect. South Korea is about half the size of New England -- smaller spaces are easier to fill.

We've done nationwide protests already, and it's mostly viewed as a bunch of coastal snowflakes with clever signs. It's a big ask to say, you need to get fired from your job for this, need to fight, flip cars, grind the gears of our country to a halt. Hurt yourself to hurt them.

But it would work. Maybe there's more strategic protests -- you get, say, air traffic controllers and flight attendants to walk out, that's a small move with big ramifications. I dunno. But I hope we find a way forward, whatever that way is.

(I will say, if you see a single GOP politician, your job is to not let them eat in public comfortably and quietly, to not pass a doorway without getting called a coward, a cultist, a traitor. Do not let them feel comfortable. Peaceful protest, but angry and righteous.)

Check your voter reg. Check it again every week. Support the Senate flip with money, volunteering, etc. -- the Senate is just as important, likely moreso, than the presidential election. Get mad. Run for office. I dunno. Just pick a thing, and do the thing.

This sounds right. But how? How do you win an election that will be compromised? This impeachment trial has allowed them to theoretically do whatever they can to win -- it has codified corruption as fine, even good.https://twitter.com/twofoottackle/status/1223252036319354882 …

I think my last thought on this is, we gotta stop acting as if everything is normal --gotta stop taking for granted that our democracy will somehow rubber band *snap* its way back to shape. Do not expect that it'll magically click into place. It will require sustained action.
