🧵1⃣ This morning we () released our assessment of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (IRA) on emissions, jobs, health impacts.
In short: this is a BIG deal.
Topline: the provisions in the bill could reduce US emissions to 37-41% below 2005 levels in 2030

Didn't want to read the 725 pages of the Manchin-Schumer bill last night?
I gotchu. Here's a detailed summary that lists the dollar amount for each of the bill’s 100+ climate & energy provisions. Grouped by sector, w/ text citations:

It's not clear in the figure I posted what the filled markers for BEVs mean. Here's another figure of "current tech" that shows BEVs with lowest lifetime emissions. Lifetime costs are not the lowest, but they neglected BEV maintenance cost savings (~40% in other studies).

Contrary to the fossil fuel propaganda campaign, the latest Argonne National Laboratory study shows that battery electric vehicles have the lowest lifetime costs and greenhouse gas emissions of all vehicles. Yes, better than hybrids despite their larger batteries.

A normal summer high temperature near London is about 20-25 °C (68-77 °F).
Having gotten to 40.2 °C (104.4 °F) is so far removed from what is a normal summer day in the UK that it barely seems possible.

Five years ago, I co-founded the campaign to make Breitbart unprofitable. They lost 90% of their ad revenues in 3 months. Today, we're launching the campaign to take on Fox News — and we know exactly how to get the job done. cc

We need to conduct a candid, self-critical review of how we’re communicating the climate change issue in the US and identify ways to improve. We clearly need to be smarter about how we counter the disinformation campaign.

“It increasingly matters not only how much energy is used but also when it is used.” Efficiency will play a crucial role not only in minimizing the amount of new electricity needed, but also in shaping demand to match the variable solar and wind supply.

Every energy source has environmental impacts, but the RE industry is trying hard to do a better job of stewardship than its predecessors in the coal, oil, and natural gas industries. To wit, the first recyclable thermoplastic-based wind turbine blade.

DeJoy’s committing 90% of new Post Office vehicles to run on fossil fuels locks us in to many more years of carbon emissions. This is a travesty. Where’s the Biden administration?

How well have climate models predicted the temperature rise? Pretty darn well.
Quote Tweet
For what its worth, we have been projecting future warming since the first climate models in the late 1960s/early 1970s. We can look back to see how well they have performed. It turns out our models generally did a good job: agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.10
