Good for Abby - it can be a life-changing experience. I served as a Senate page under the patronage of Wisconsin Sen. William Proxmire in 1978. That's where I contracted Potomac Fever. Eventually spent 5 years as a K Street lawyer. That's what cured it!

Bob "Dove" is correct (not "Dole"). Dr. Dove was Senate Parliamentarian from 1995 - 2001. The Parliamentarian is the resident expert on the Rules of the Senate. Sits in the front row, beneath the Presiding Officer.

I remember Murray Zweben serving in this role and whispering to Muriel Humphrey what to say when she was Presiding Officer while serving out her husband Hubert's term after his death in 1978.
