It is interesting how Chromium fork maintainers, such as Brave—who one assumes also have a dedication to user privacy but who are not under Google's direction—do not seem to see it this way

In that case, do make an effort to provide a sufficiently powerful replacement which does not impose artificial limits on e.g. list size. Not sure if there are other limitations with the new API.

While I generally like much of Chrome as a browser, I do now, for reasons such as this and diversity, slowly switch back to Firefox, which does offer way more in the area of customization through extensions.

It sounds like extensions will still be able to use the webRequest API to snoop on user data, just asynchronously. Is the intention here to give extra scrutiny to extensions that require webRequest? Otherwise I'm not sure how this is improving user privacy.

2 part answer 1. This is a step on the path to improving security, not the destination. Reducing the need for webRequest which means extensions access that sensitive data less often. That's an improvement. But other changes we're making will complement this effort.
