The DevTools colorpicker now produces modern CSS color syntax, as opposed to the legacy comma-based syntax. https://twitter.com/mathias/status/1253242715304857601 …pic.twitter.com/zeU60PXfLn

Urgh! for all the people not transpiling CSS already this is automated bug insertion for older browsers like ie11.

Worried about that too. Looks like a footgun. Should it be an option, off by default, and that could be made on by default when browser support is wider?

I know it's already raised as a question, but I feel the new syntax has a much worse readability than the previous one with commas. the latter gave separation between the colour components and helped me to quickly glance through the code while the former just a number soup for me

Is there a place where users can get information on browser support for this syntax? It doesn't seem to be spelled out on Can I Use or on MDN (not in the <color> page at least).

Yup. In CSS, functions are a just a way to group/name a syntax chunk, so they should work by the same rules that CSS grammar does in general: values are optional and re-orderable when possible, space-separated, and commas are used to separate *repetitions* only.

Yup. Yesterday i wasted 20 minutes trying to use your colorpicker while working on a legacy codebase. I'm not amused.
