On today's livestream at the #Wyoming Legislative Select Committee on Blockchain, Financial Technology and Digital Innovation Tech, I'm also testifying about private key disclosure. [1/9]
Conversation
The problem is that currently private key disclosure can be forced in the early stages of a legal process, resulting in threats of false witness or irrevocable asset transfers, for which the private key holder has *no* legal recourse.[2/9]

This is made worse by the fact that courts do not currently have the technical and security infrastructure to reasonably protect a keyholder’s rights and ensure that the private key remains private! [3/9]

Testimony from former Mary Beth Buchannan, former U.S. Attorney for W. Dist. PA is in agreement "Honestly, I would be very concerned about turning over a private key to a court." [4/9] diyhpl.us/wiki/transcrip

A private key can be someone's digital signature or their verification of identity. Having that key compromised by a malicious actor can cause egregious harm. As a technologist, I know of no safe ways to transfer private keys. So we need better protection for private keys! [5/9]

Thus I have been trying to get special protection for private keys since I first proposed the concept in 2019 #KeysAreNotAssets. Wyoming is currently considering this legislation to do exactly that, and so I strongly support it! [6/9]

I hope that some of the money I sent you to cover the silicon salon can be used for this purpose. I don't have a monthly stream of income, but instead a dwindling savings pile. I don't like to use that as an excuse to ignore people, so if you need a smaller amount let me know.
