Google self-preferences its own products. All the big tech giants do. This reduces competition, makes the playing field unfair for startups
Consumers lose because of lack of choice
But as notes, Google's path up was protected by fair play protections in the late 90's

Antitrust was developed to prevent precisely these kinds of anticompetitive ties and rent extractions, for example the railroads’ exertion of control and exclusion over industries whose products they transported. It’s the same kind of tie, just implemented digitally.
